Norma Grace Ray Mounts, 74, most recently residing at the Good Shepherd Nursing Facility of Phelps, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2013.
Norma was born fourth of the seven children of the late Mary Etta Richmond and Monroe Ray of Meador. She was the wife of the late William (Bill) Harrison Mounts. Bill preceded her in death in 1992.
Together they had six children who still survive her, Mark (Darlene) Mounts of Hatfield Bottom, Kim (Jeff) Dotson of Kimper, Ky., Rhonda Hopkins of Columbia, S.C., Bruce Mounts of Hardy, Ky., Brad (Sherri) Mounts of Hardy, Ky., and Tracy (Mike) Johnson of Church Hill, Tenn.
Besides being a devoted Christian, Norma was proudest of her role in life as mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Along with her six children, she leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Jessica Owens, Amanda Hodge, Christy Bruner, Lisa Leedy, J.C. Willard, Dirk Willard, Gregory Hopkins, Kelly Slone, William Mounts, Tabitha Irick and Julia Irick; six great-grandchildren, Hunter Weddington and Isabella Bruner, Paisley and Noah Abbott, Jacob Willard and Fiona Slone; brother, Mike Ray of Meador; and sisters, Stella Kennedy of Beech Creek, Sue Dawson of Meador, and Delores Rhondelli of Iowa.
Norma was also preceded in death by brother, Monroe Ray Jr.; and sister, Sally May Sheffler.
But being a wonderful mother and homemaker were not her only accomplishments in life. Beside all of that, Norma also cared for several friends and loved ones with various illnesses, in and out of her home, throughout the years. She worked as a teacher’s aid when her children were younger. Norma was a member of the Sharondale Church of Christ for over 50 years. She remained very active in the congreation there with teaching, singing with her beautiful alto voice in the choir and attending additional classes that were offered outside of regular Church services, until health issurs and illnesses prevented her form attending. And even when she became so very ill that she became a member of the family at Good Shepherd, her soul was a beautiful and strong witness, even when her flesh was at its weakest, every single day of her life.
Norma was an inspiration and role model to all who had the privilage of knowing and loving her. She adopted her angels at Good Shephers as her extended family of children, grandchildren and siblings. She will be extremely missed by her family and host of loving friends. All of our lives will be a little emptier with her passing, but our hearts will be full of loving, precious memories and the assurance of the knowledge that our loss in Heaven’s gain.
