Mingo bailiffs to receive Hepatitis B vaccine

WILLIAMSON – The Mingo County Board of Health agreed Thursday to grant the Mingo County Commission’s request that county court bailiffs be given Hepatitis B vaccinations.

Nursing staff of the Mingo County Health Department will administer the serum to the bailiffs.

In other action, the Board approved a financial update by Tina Lockard from the County Commission’s finance office; agreed to permanent appointment for Sanitarian II Brett J. Vance when he finishes his probationary training April 20, and heard a mid-year progress report on the Threat Preparedness program of which Health Department Administrator Cathy Headen serves as coordinator.

Lockard reported Year-to-date revenues as totaling $258,719.25 and year-to-date expenditures as $237,542..34. She also reported a current bank balance of $88,449.78 after payment of bills.

#Greg K. Smith, board chairman, conducted the meeting, which also was attended by board members Franklin Cisco and Ray Curry. Board members Dr. Diane Shafer and Albert Totten were absent.

The board briefly discussed a personnel matter involving Office Assistant II Amanda Davis, who is working a new office schedule because of some changes in the nursing classes in which she is enrolled.

The board, at its Feb. 19 meeting, had approved her work schedule. Ms. Headen said she had received a letter from the state Division of Personnel, stating that Davis was eligible to be reallocated to OAII only. Board Chairman Smith noted that the board had filed a grievance in the matter and “If there is anything else we can do to assist Amanda, we will.”

Amanda also works as SNS with Ms. Headen on the Threat Preparedness organization’s Strategic National Stockpile component.

The report by Headen on the TP program showed activity of health department personnel and volunteers, such as training sessions, meetings and other components of the homeland security organization. Department employees have provided the public with information regarding the TP and Pandemic Flu plans.

#A staff training on the COOP plan has been scheduled for March 24, and Pandemic Flu training is set for April 28, it was reported.

Nancy Johnson, CRNP, presented her monthly report on Family Planning and the Breast Cancer and Cervical Screening Program for the month of February. The health department issued billing for the two programs in the amount of $3,967.4;6 and received $4,795.97.

Family Planning had 139 visits during February and BCCSP had 19. For the year-to-date, Family Planning andf BCCSP billed for $25,819.25 and received $25,762.74.

The board approved all of the reports presented during the meeting and heard a brief Safety Committee report from Headen on behalf of the committee chairman, Brett Vance.

The Board of Health granted the committee permission to purchase a new smoke detector to replace the defective one in the lunch/supply room of the health department, and also to buy a refill for the eye wash station. Mrs. Davis joined Ms. Headen in citing the need for a shredder to shred department charts no longer needed. It also was noted that there is a need to surplus the old state computers, monitors and keyboards in the department.

With regard to Scott Bartram, he is allowed to continue attending Continuous Educational Unit in-service training at Beckley.

The health board transacted other business and approved annual/sick leaves and accounts payable.#
