Rabid cat attacks W.Va. man
LAKEWOOD (AP) — Mineral County officials say a cat that attacked a man working in his yard has tested positive for rabies.
The finding marks the first reported case of rabies in the county this year.
Mineral County health officials are warning residents of the county’s Lakewood area to be wary of animals acting strangely or aggressively.
County humane officer Jim Hawk said the man was working in his yard last week when he noticed the cat. The animal kept getting closer and then attacked the man’s leg.
Hawk said a neighbor shot the cat.
The man is undergoing treatment.
Rabies is a virus that if left untreated can be fatal.
