NEWTOWN - The Tug Valley Lady Panthers defeated Mingo Central 52 to 39 on Monday night at the MCHS gym.
Adreana Vance led Tug valley with 19 points and she pulled down nine rebounds and handed out four assists
Whitney Evans-Kirk was next in line with 13 points, while Katie Robinson scored nine and
Hannah Armstrong chipped in eight points and had nine rebounds.
“This was by far our best effort of the season. We played really good man to man defense tonight as a team; it was a total team effort, said Panther coach Okey Smith. “We still didn’t shoot the ball as good as I would like to but, I feel our shooting will improve as the season moves along.” “I thought Adreana probably played her best game in a Tug Valley uniform tonight, I told her the other day in practice that as our point guard she had to be a leader and I thought that she stepped up and lead us tonight. Whitney played good after a 2-game lay-off and hit some big shots for us in the second and third quarters.”
“Hannah didn’t have a big scoring game for us, but she played good defense on Ashley Curry and had some big rebounds for us when we needed them,” Smith added. “What can I say about Katie Robinson? She may not have much size, but she plays with a big heart. She has really stepped up her game in Cassie’s (Griffith) absence and played outstanding tonight.”
“Unless you were at the game you wouldn’t know the impact that Amber (Linville) had on this game. She only scored two points (two big foul shots in the fourth), but she had a bunch (9) of blocks and several (7) rebounds for us. I think her size altered a lot of their shots.”
“But what I am most proud of is that this was a clean game played by both teams and I think that is something that all of Mingo County can be proud of tonight,” Smith concluded.
Kiearia Hammond led Mingo Central with 11 points, while Chrissy Farmer added nine. Ashley Curry scored eight points and pulled down game high 14 rebounds.
Tug Valley is now (4-1) on the season and there next game is January 3 at Sherman.
Mingo Central is now (2-4) on the season. The Lady Miners next game is Thursday at Poca
