NEWTOWN – Sissonville defeated the Lady Miners of Mingo Central 76-59 in the first game of a basketball doubleheader on Tuesday night.

The Indians led 39-30 at the half and outscored Mingo Central 37-29 in the second half to pull out the victory.

Madison Jones led five players in double figures for Sissonville with 22 points. Mariah Youngblood scored 13 points, while Karli Pinkerton, Taylor Rhodes and Brooke Reed each chipped in 10 points for the Indians.

Ashley Curry led Mingo Central with 13 points and she also hauled in 13 rebounds. Danielle Browning added 11 points, while Miranda Evans chipped in eight, Bri Smith seven and Chrissy Farmer five. Farmer led the team with four assists.

Mingo Central is now 0-2 on the season and will play host to Lincoln County on Thursday night.
