PHELPS, Ky. - The Phelps Lady Hornets started the season last week winning two games and losing another.

They lost the season opener 60-23 to a tough Allen Central squad last Tuesday.

They rebounded nicely to finish the week with two wins, according to head coach Jonathan “J.R.” VanHoose.

On Friday night they defeated Riverside Christian 50-20 and on Saturday they ran past South Floyd 45-22.

“The only bright spot against Allen Central was the play of junior Caitlyn Norman who had 12 points and seven rebounds,” VanHoose said.

Against Riverside Christian the Phelps girls were once again led by Norman who had 17 points and added two assists and a pair of steals. Sophomore Donessa Maynard added four points and 10 rebounds and freshman Kasi Francis had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Saturday against South Floyd, Norman once again played an excellent game scoring 21 points with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Maynard added six points and 10 rebounds, while Francis, a 9th grader, once again played a big game scoring five points, grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking seven shots.
