The November race being held by the Tug Valley Road Runners Club is being sponsored by Williamson Memorial Hospital and has been dubbed the Gobble Wobble 5-K race.

“This is going to be our fifth 5-K race of the year since July,” said Alexis Batausa, an active member of the club. “Every month has been a huge impact with the growth of participants from all surrounding communities. We thank you always for coming out to be with us. This is going to be our Thanksgiving themed race.”

The registration fee is $10 for everyone and runners are asked to bring a can food and non-perishable food item to the race on Saturday, November 17. The canned goods will be donated to a local charity or food pantry.

“Every finisher will get a medal,” Batausa said. “Runners who register will also get a special T-shirt.”

The race will start at 12 noon and pre-registration will be from 10 am to right before 12 pm. A 5K is 3.1 miles and this race will be ran in West Williamson starting at the community college and along the floodwall. A course map can be seen on-line. You can check the TVRRC Facebook page for the link to the map.

“It’s an out and back course. There will be three turns in this race,” Batausa said. “It will start from the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, pass the National Guard Armory, down the end of Armory Road (bright cones will be there to direct you), and make that first turn back towards the floodwall.’

“Once you reach the end of the flood wall, you make that second turn and head back up the floodwall and down the end of Armory Road again. This is when you make that third turn and head towards the college for the 3.10 finish line,” he added. “This is a flat course that will take you by the floodwall there in West Williamson,” Batausa said.

The president of the TVRRC is David Hatfield. There has been a great turnout for the last few races and once again the local runner’s club expects to have several runners/walkers to register.
