Hansel Lester, loving father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor, 92, of Phelps, Ky., departed this life on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, Ky.
Born on May 12, 1920, in Jamboree, Ky., Hansel was the son of the late Emzie and Angeline Blankenship Lester.
In addition to his parents, Hansel is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years Lillian Lester; daughters Fayalee and Jeanettalee; brothers, Lancel, Tommy, Howard, Roscoe, Junior, James, Artemis, Muncie, Donnie, and Cletis.
Hansel was a retired UMWA Miner having worked 38 years in the coal industry. Hansel was a founding member of the Church of God In Jesus Name, Phelps, where he served in various capacities from Sunday School Superintendent and carpenter, being involved in the building of the church and expansion projects over the years.
He leaves to honor his loving memory and mourn his passing daughters Monica (Lacey) Ferrell and Shelva Jean (Junior) Dotson; sister, Lavada Bentley of Shelby Valley, Ky.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Hansel is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends, he will be missed by a community of friends and loved ones.
Honoring services will be conducted Friday, November 2, at 11 a.m. at the Church of God In Jesus Name of Phelps, with Pastor Opie Harris officiating. Entombment will follow at the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. The family will begin receiving friends on Wednesday, October 31, and Thursday, November 1, at 6 p.m. at the church with services at 7 p.m.
