This Saturday, October 27, will mark the last official market day for the spring and summer harvest season.

Although it is the last set date and the end of the season, the stands will be complete with quality goods and local produce as always.

There will be snap peas, potatoes, broccoli, and a variety of greens including kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, and mustard and turnips. Additionally, there will be the usual selection of locally baked and canned home goods available this weekend.

This will also be the last chance to get pumpkins and gourds from your local farmers, just in time for Halloween on Wednesday.

Saturday will marks the last chance for local seniors to spend their Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Vouchers. Seniors should keep in mind that if not all of the Mingo County vouchers are spent, that the county might not be allocated as many in years to follow. The vouchers can be used at any stand at the market that offers fruits and vegetables. For more information regarding the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Vouchers, and to check if there are any still available, contact Juanita Hooks at the Harry L. Joyce Senior Center.

The market will be open during its usual hours this weekend, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and while it’s the last of this season, keep your eyes open for future market dates.

There was recently a variety of greens, turnips, garlic, chives, leeks and beets planted at the Williamson Community Gardens, and as the produce is harvested, there will be specially hosted Winter market days. Location, time and dates will be updated on the community calendar at the Williamson Daily News, and can also be found on Facebook, at www.facebook.com/williamsonfarmersmarket.
