Williamson — Tickets are currently on sale for one of the Tug Valley’s most anticipated annual fundraisers, the GFWC-WV Williamson Woman’s Club’s pinto bean luncheon.

The annual event, which raises money for the club’s collegiate scholarship fund and other community projects, is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Williamson.

Money raised through the bean luncheon provides a $1,000 annual financial award to a local student attending Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. Students attending Mingo County Central, Tug Valley and Belfry high schools are eligible to apply for the scholarship award.

This year’s event will feature a choice of pinto, navy or vegetarian beans served with cornbread, slaw and desert for $5. Dine-in, carryout and delivery options are available.

“This is our club’s biggest event and we look forward to it all year,” said Woman’s Club President Leigh Ann Ray. “We have something for everyone who likes our area’s traditional beans and cornbread fare and our vegetarian beans are growing more popular each year.”

This year’s event is chaired by the club’s first vice president, Judith Hamrick, and immediate past president, Ann Lipps.

“Education is very important to our group,” Hamrick said. “We are so appreciative of everyone who has come out all these years and supported our efforts to help our local students receive a quality education by supporting our pinto bean luncheon.”
