GOODY, Ky. — United for Coal, a citizens group created to support the coal mining industry, will hold an event tomorrow to demonstrate the community’s support for mining.

Standing Together Across Coal County, is just that: coal supporters standing in a line, beginning on US 23 at Big Stone Gap, Va., and stretching through Eastern Kentucky.

Locally, Standing Together is asking coal supporters to assemble at Belfry High School, to build a human chain from the school to the West Virginia border.

United for Coal says they not only support the industry, but also want to protest what they feel is overreaching regulation from the government.

“Our government has decided to commit ‘Regional Genocide’ against our people,” their website said. “They have summarily executed the entire coal industry thru overreaching environmental regulation. We resolve that we will make our voices heard and defend our livelihoods and our way of life as we, the fathers, mothers, sons and daughters of coal stand hand in hand, arm in arm, shoulder to shoulder, with one voice stand.”

Participants are encouraged to make signs to show up on aerial and photography in the “mine line.”

To be a part of Standing Together Across Coal Country, simply come the the parking lot of Belfry High School, the lineup will begin at 1:30.
