BELFRY, Ky. – The Belfry Middle School Pirates finished the regular season 9-0 with a 36-8 against East Ridge at Vipperman Stadium.

It was Parent Night for the Belfry players and fans, as they saw the team continue their strong play.

The high octane Pirate offense scored on the first play from scrimmage when Cameron Catron took the ball 51 yards. However, the play didn’t stand because of an illegal down field block.

On the very next play, Andrew Fletcher took the ball 53 yards to hit pay-dirt. The 2-point conversion by Austin Woolum was good. BMS took an early 8-0 lead.

The tough defense kept the Warriors from moving the football. Then a bad snap on fourth and seventeen was picked up in the end zone by Fletcher for another Belfry TD. The PAT by Woolum was good making the score 15-0.

Once again the Pirate defense held East Ridge on downs to take over on the 48 yard line. Ray Horton took the next handoff and hit the end zone for another score. The score at the end of the first quarter stood 21-0.

Adding to the Pirate total in the second quarter was Devin Varney with another touchdown from 12 yards out. The extra point kick from Woolum was good, ending the half at 28-0. The 8th grade Pirate offense was perfect on the night, scoring on all four offensive plays, with the first play being called back on a penalty.

With the undefeated season safely put away at the half, it was time for the 7th grade BMS team to take over.

On the first snap of the second half, Preston Stump took the ball 45 yards into the end zone. Quarterback Avery Browning hit Braxton Miller for the 2-point conversion to make the score 36-0. Defensive standouts for the Pirates were Cole Bentley, Mikey Sesco and Josh Keathley with five tackles each. Caleb Whitt and Josh Thacker both had four stops. Stump and Miller played tough defense for the young Pirates. Dalton Lowe chipped in with an interception. The Pirates will be back in action next Tuesday at Vipperman Stadium, when they begin their quest for a Pike County title.
