Two plead to drug charges

WILLIAMSON – Two persons from the Red Jacket-Taylorville area ent-ered pleas of guilty to drug offenses Wednesday morning during appearances in Mingo County Circuit Court.

Chief Judge Michael Thornsbury accepted their pleas and set sentencings for 9:15 a.m., April 6. In the meantime, the two defendants were remanded to Southwestern Regional Jail near Holden to await reappearance in court.

Assistant Mingo County Prosecutor Glen Rutledge represented the state in both proceedings.

Gary Collins, 42, Red Jacket, pleaded guilty to Count I of his January 2009 indictment which charged him with delivery of a Schedule III controlled substance identified as Hydrocodone. Two other drug charges were dismissed by the state in return for the pleas.

Williamson Attorney Susan Van Zant represented Collins.

Diane Casey, 22, Taylor-ville, entered a plea of guilty to Count II of her January 2009 indictment which charged her with conspiracy to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, Cocaine. A second charge will be dismissed in exchange for the plea to the other count.

Casey was represented at the hearing by Williamson Attorney Ronald J. Rum-ora.
