INEZ, Ky. – The Sheldon Clark Cardinals (2-1) will play host to Pikeville (1-2) Friday night and it will be homecoming for the Martin County school.

The Cardinals are coming off a convincing 56-14 win over Casey County. That game was called early because of stormy weather.

The Cards were still able to put up big numbers in just two quarters. Coach Shawn Hager’s squad is 2-1 on the season. Their only loss came at the hands of Prestonsburg 48-40.

Hager has gotten balanced offense from his squad. Freshman quarterback Bryce Workman has played well, along with freshman Brandon Butcher. Senior Chase Lafferty scored three TDs last week, while senior Tyler O’Connor had five touchdowns against Prestonsburg in week two.

Hager’s young line is coming together and has improved each game. The Sheldon Clark defense played very well against Casey County.

The Pikeville Panthers are licking their wounds this week after losing 54-14 at Raceland last week. Pikeville lost to Harlan away 41 - 21 in their season opener and defeated Powell County 53-12 in the second week of the season.

Coach Chris McNamee should have his Panther squad ready for the trip to Inez.

(Editor’s Note: Phelps will be is idle this week. They lost to East Ridge last weekend and are now 0-3. The Hornets will host Montcalm, W.Va. at Vipperman Stadium in Belfry on Friday night, August 14.)
