Shooting at Laurel Creek under investigation
LAUREL CREEK - Law enforcement within Mingo County were dispatched to the scene of a shooting at Laurel Creek on Sunday evening that resulted in an unidentified male in his late 40’s being transported to the Appalachian Regional Hospital (ARH). He was then said to have been airlifted by Healthnet to the Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) for what was allegedly a non-life threatening injury to his leg.
According to information provided by West Virginia State Police (WVSP) Trooper T.G. Kania III, he and Trooper J.J. Dean III, along with Mingo County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) Deputies M. Mounts and E. Williams, responded to a 911 call at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday that requested medical assistance and the presence of police after a shooting was reported at a Laurel Creek residence.
The details surrounding the shooting of the unidentified male are not being released at this time, per Trooper Kania, until the official investigation concludes. Speculation from several neighbors is that this was a self-inflicted wound, while others who live nearby say they think the victim could have been injured by another party.
The male is said to be in stable condition and remains a patient at the CHH as of press time. More information regarding this shooting will be released to the public as soon as it becomes available to the Daily News.
