WASHINGTON, D.C. – Housing Authorities in Mingo County have been awarded $523,930 in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) 2009 Recovery Act Capital Fund Formula Program.

“HUD continues to help people in Mingo County and across southern West Virginia become less economically dependent and achieve stable, safe homes,” said  U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV). “I am thankful that HUD recognized the importance of these local initiatives, which will be of great benefit to all of Mingo County.”

Congressman Rahall worked to pass the 2009 Recovery Act, which became law earlier this month, to fund programs and initiatives to jump start the economy, save and create jobs and reinvest in America’s economic future.

The 2009 Recovery Act Capital Fund Formula Program awarded $442,572 to the Housing Authority of the City of Williamson and $81,358 to the Housing Authority of Mingo County

Funds from the 2009 Recovery Act Capital Fund Formula Program are used for Public Housing Agencies eligible for funding under Section 9 of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937 with the exception that funds cannot be used for operations or rental assistance. Funds are used for capital and management activities, including the modernization and development of public housing.

“HUD programs such as these go along way to help hard working West Virginians improve their communities and strive for independence and self-sufficiency,” said Rahall.
