CHARLESTON (AP) —West Virginia highway officials say the list of projects they plan to fund with federal stimulus dollars isn’t cast in concrete.

But while legislators can offer alternative proposals, these officials also say their roster of more than 100 road and bridge jobs reflects the best use of the nearly $211 million available.

A House committee assigned to oversee the stimulus process heard from several members of Gov. Joe Manchin’s administration Wednesday as the state prepares to draw down the initial batches of funding for specific tasks.

Forestry officials have submitted a proposal for $14 million from the stimulus. They expect to create 500 jobs through those projects.

Manchin also met with more lawmakers to explain his approach to the massive spending bill.
