PIKEVILLE, Ky. - An office building in Pikeville that was in the process of being demolished was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon.

The building was a two story commercial structure, the Riverside Office Complex on Hambley Boulevard was empty and about to be torn down.
Lindsey said when the PFD arrived, there was heavy smoke and was engulfed in flames.
“We determined the construction workers were out of the building, and becan fire suppression efforts,” Lindsey said. “We spent two hours getting the fire under control, and another two hours maked sure there were no hot spots that might start burning again.”
Lindsey said two firefighters were taken the Pikeville Medical Center for injuries sustained at the fire. One firefighter was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington W.Va., but neither firefighter’s injuries were life threatening. The firefighter being treated at PMC has been release and is recovering at home, Lindsey said.
The cause of the blaze is still undetermined, and is under investigation by the Pikeville Police Department and the Pikeville Fire Marshal.
Lindsey said the PFD had 22 firefighters on scene, with two engines and an aerial apparatus. They were assisted by the Pikeville Police Department and Pikeville Emergency Management.
