GILBERT, W.Va - The Gilbert Lions used a balanced scoring attack and dominance on the boards to defeat the visiting Williamson Wolfpack by a score of 44-36. Six Gilbert players scored, with Birchfield leading with 12 points. Williamson’s Jarrid McCormick was the game’s leading scorer with 14 points, which included 4 three pointers.

The first quarter was all Lions with a 14-5 advantage at the end. However, the Wolfpack came out in the second to make a game of it, tying the score at the 3:42 mark. Gilbert then scored six unanswered points, making the score 20-14. At the half the score was 22-19, with Gilbert scoring on a last second shot.

The teams played even the third quarter, with each scoring 7 points. However, the Gilbert Lions came out in the fourth ready to seal the victory. Dominating on the boards both offensively and defensively, the Lions outscored the Pack 15-10. The Lions pulled out the victory by a score of 44-36.

Besides the 12 points from Birchfield, scoring for the Lions were Bailey with 8, Chris Carter 4, Smith 9, Carter 7, and Houck 4. In addition to McCormick’s 14 points, scoring for the Pack were Anderson 7, Hatcher 6, Davidson 2, Turner 2, Lee 3 and Hurley 2.

The teams have split the series this season, with the Wolfpack owning a victory over the Lions earlier in the season. The two teams meet again Friday in Sectional Tournament play at the Williamson Fieldhouse.

The Wolfpack faces the Tolsia Rebels tonight at the Williamson Fieldhouse. It will be both senior and parent night for the ‘Pack.

Also tonight there will be a special commemoration of the 188 -1989 Williamson Wolfpack Back- to - Back State Championship teams that will feature a reunion of many of the members of those teams.
