Blue Devils, Rangers win in Mingo County Middle School Boys Basketball Tourney last night; will play Saturday for title
WILLIAMSON, W.Va. - The Kermit Blue Devils expended little energy in taking out the Wiliamson Cubpack Thursday night in second round action of the Mingo County Middle School Tournament by the score of 49 to 30.
Utilizing a big ist quarter to seize a 13 to 4 lead, Kermit never looked back as they coasted to a 19 point win that propelled them into the championship contest on Saturday.
Kermit Coach Okey Smith said after the game “We came out a little flat at first, but give Williamson credit they put the defense to us all night long and Austin Banks is a very good player".
Smith also added that "I thought our pressure defense hurt them especially in the first half. Austin, Aaron and Mikey forced several turnovers in the first half and I thought that Corey and Isaac with their size caused them some problems and both rebounded the ball well. Als Ryan came in off the bench and played well for us; as did my 6th graders Chase and Hayden."
