“In so much that the multitude wondered when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see; and they glorified the God of Israel.” (Matthew 15:31)
Jesus had left Tyre and Sidon and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then He went up on a mountainside and sat down. Great crowds came to Him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and laid them at His feet; and He healed them. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled mad well, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.
The Lord was concerned about the people who had been with Him for three days an had nothing to eat. He didn’t want to send them away hungry, or they might collapse on the way. The disciples were concerned about where they could find enough food in that remote place to feed such a crowd.
Jesus asked them how many loaves of bread they had and they said they had seven, and a few small fish. He took the loaves and the fish, and when He had given thanks, He broke them and gave them to His disciples, and they in turn to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
The number who ate was four thousand, besides women and children. After Jesus had sent the crowd away, He got into the boat and went to Magadan.
Jesus knew His days on earth were numbered, so He took advantage of every opportunity to make known to the people who He was and what He had come to earth to do. He sometimes went up on the mountainside to pray and came bringing those who needed healing, Jesus met their need. His heart was filled with compassion for them and for those who had been with Him for three days and had nothing to eat. With seven loaves and a few fish Jesus fed 4000 hungry people. Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus is still in the3 business of meeting the needs of His people? May He give to us grateful hearts for all the blessings that we receive from His almighty hand?
May we glorify the heavenly Father,
For the many blessings we receive,
From the wonderful God in whom we believe,
So may we praise His holy name,
Just as the people did so long ago,
When Jesus healed so many who needed Him,
And helped them to spiritually grow.
Dear Father, What a wonderful sight it must have been to see Jesus healing so many with physical handicaps on the mountainside. We praise Him for the miracles we receive in our lives. In Jesus holy name we pray. Amen.
