Thomas Hunter Somers, 93, passed away Sunday, February 8, at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He was born December 4, 1915 at Logan, West Virginia, a son of the late Patrick Joseph Somers and Aileen Hunter Somers. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jettie Edith Somers and daughter, Alice Mae Somers.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Big Stone Gap, Virginia, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Federal Order of Eagles. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy Carol Koop and husband, David of Andover, Va.; son, Thomas Joseph Somers of Michigan; grandchildren, William Patrick Joseph Eldridge and wife Frances of Kentucky, Carol Amy Graley and husband Richard of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Judy Lee “Georgie” Koop of Andove, Virginia and Jennifer Somers of Michigan, ; great grandchildren, William Shane Eldridge, Brent Kyle Eldridge, Haley Marie Faith Eldridge of Kentucky and Nicholas Andrew Graley of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; brother, Mickey Somers of Florida; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Frank and Phyllis Leopard of Pontiac, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, February 12, 2009 at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky. Burial will follow in the Mullins Family Cemetery, Sidney, Kentucky. Military Graveside services will be conducted by the Belfry Chapter #141 D.A.V. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at the R.E.
