Elijah Poppy Williamson, 79 of Canada, Ky. entered his heavenly home, Monday, February 2, 2009 at his residence.
He was born October 22, 1929 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late George and Alabama May Williamson. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lassie Ball, Gracie Cook and Annie Williamson and four brothers, Walter, John B., Carl and Delmer Williamson.
Elijah was a retired coal miner with Island Creek Coal Company, a member of the U.M.W.A. and the Sidney Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, June Thacker Williamson of Canada, Ky., one daughter, Vida (Doug) Moon of Canada, Ky. and four sons, Lige Edward (Loretta) Williamson of Millard, Ky., Rodney Williamson, Gregory (DeeDee) Williamson and Chris (Rudy) Williamson all of Canada, Ky., brother, George Williamson, Jr. of Canada, Ky. and Ruby Cook of Canada, Ky. Ky., five grandsons, Charles (Tammy) Moon, Lige Edward (Jennifer) Williamson II, Bradley Williamson, Elijah Williamson II and Seth Williamson, granddaughters, Rebecca Moon, Fallon Williamson, Bethel (Josh) Robinette, Nicole (Jason) Kidd, Meghan (Aaron) Hunt and Denise Williamson, great grandchildren, Larry Charles and Austin Moon, Zander Williamson, Elijah Williamson III, Hannah Hunt, Alyssa, Becca and Bella Robinette, step grandsons, Jay and Aaron Kirk and step great grandsons, Brandon Ray and Ricky Walters and special friends, Donald and Exie Rowe of Mt. Sterling, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Sidney Missionary Baptist Church with Jamie Fugate officiating. Burial will follow in the Williamson Family Cemetery, Canada, Ky. Visitation will be after 6 PM Wednesday and Thursday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 PM Wednesday with Jamie Fugate and 7 PM Thursday with Mike Smith officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the Funeral Friday at the Church. Family members will serve as pallbearers. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry is in charge of arrangements.
