Pburg man charged with robbing Castle Jewelry

A Prestonsburg Ky., man was arrested for robbing the Coal Run location of Castle’s Jewelry at gunpoint.

A press release from Kentucky State Police Post 9 says Gregg Callas, 42 of Hammonds Road, Prestonsburg, entered the store at Weddington Square Plaza at Coal Run near Pikeville around 3:49 p.m., armed with a handgun. After struggling with a female employee, Callas then left the store in a 2001 Ford Taurus, driving south on U.S. 23.

Tpr. Brad Austin located the vehicle and followed it to the Wal-Mart parking lot in Pikeville, Ky., where Callas held the gun to his own head as though he would shoot himself, the press release says.

Lt. Henry Banks and Lt. Sean Welch of the KSP and a Pikeville City Police Unit arrived on the scene along with Tpr. Austin. Gregg Callas soon surrendered to police with no further incidence. He is lodged in the Pike County Detention Center and charged with robbery 1st degree and three counts of wanton endangerment 1st. degree.

The case is under investigation by Detective B. J. Caudill U/955 of the Kentucky State Police Post 9.

Bond is set at $50,000full cash.
