Ethel Mae Akers, 79, of Hatfield, Ky., passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born March 14, 1933, in Pike County, Ky., the daughter of the late Marion and Alta Blackburn Murphy.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Chester Akers; a daughter, Linda Akers; sisters, Thelma Marie Adams and Lucille Damron; brothers, Frank Porter and Charles Murphy; and grandchildren, Janell Rogers and Michelle Lea Akers.

Ethel was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist Faith.

Survivors include daughters, Peggy (Jack) Hensley of Hatfield, Ky., and Melissa (Dwayne) Huttenstine of Sidney, Ky.; sons, Ermel Lee Akers of Hatfield, and Gary Thomas Akers of Pikeville, Ky.; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 30, in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Earl White and Ray Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinson Cemetery, Hatfield, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Funeral Home with special services Sunday night at 7 p.m.
