Williamson Mayor Dar-rin McCormick is trying to funnel all city projects through one area he said during the regular meeting of the Williamson City Council Thursday evening.
Dr. Diane Shafer ap-proached the council on behalf of the Rotary Club to seek permission to make repairs to the Robert Alex-ander Park on Vinson Street.
“The Rotary Club is interested in fixing the park and returning it to something useful,” Shafer said.
McCormick informed her that by going through the Williamson Community Foundation (WCF), any do-nations are tax deductible.
“All projects like these should be run through the Williamson Redevelopment Authority (WRA),” he said.
He told Shafer there was pipe under the asphalt that had once been a basketball court that is in need of repair.
“Several people in the Rotary Club have skills,” she responded. “This is an opportunity for the park to be restored.”
Shafer and McCormick agreed to set up a site visit between members of the Rotary Club and WCF.
“After we have it organized, we can take it to the redevelopment authority,” McCormick stated.
WRA will soon be advertising for director of the County Convention and Visitors Bureau McCor-mick said. The CVB director will head up all projects for the city.
The Williamson Blue-print Committees Team and WRA work to improve Williamson. The Web site reports the mission is to build a place where people choose to “live, learn, work and play.”
Shafer also told the council she will be offering life guard classes for the spring and summer for the American Red Cross. The class will cost $25 and students must be at least 15-years-old. The class will take place at the city pool sometime in early June.
March is the official Red Cross month.
