Donnie Curry

Lace Donald “Donnie” Curry, 78, of Delbarton, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2012, while a patient at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was born Sept. 17, 1933, at Holden, the son of the late Lace and Dorothy Amburgey Curry.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Vada Lee Trapasso.

Donnie was retired as a Salesman for Cline Ford and Hatfield McCoy Auto. He was also a longtime member of the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church where he was a Trustee and Deacon. He had a love for his family and church family that arose from a giving spirit. He always set a Godly example to all who knew him.

Those left behind to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 60 years, Bridget Neal Hunter Curry; sons, Donald Bruce “Ingrid” Curry of Nashville, Tenn., and Leslie Duane “Teri” Curry of Morgantown, Ky.; daughter, Cindy “Troy” Hinkle of Wharnecliffe; brother, Dr. G. Thomas Curry of Williamson; grandchildren, Brian and Benjamin Curry, Luke and Hope Curry, Natasha Vines, Serena Fowler, and J.R. Hinkle. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church Tuesday February 28, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Danny Mitchell and Bro. Bill Duty officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher. Visitation will be at the Church from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday evening. Pallbearers will be grandsons and men of the church.

Melinda New

Melinda Sue New, 44, of Matewan, died Thursday, February 23, 2012

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 28, at Chambers Funeral Services’ Chapel, Matewan, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Fields Family Cemetery at Peter Fork of McCarr, Ky.The family will begin receiving friends on Tuesday, February 28, at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. until time of service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.

James Spencer

James Spencer, 82, of McCarr, Ky., passed away Friday February 24, 2012, at his residence.

He was born November 3, 1929, at McCarr, to the late Logan and Nevah Bayes Spencer.

He is also preceded in death by his wife, Brooksie Blankenship Spencer; five sisters, Gracie Carter, Cleo Moore, Mary R. Smith, Ocie Presley and Myrtle Scott; and three brothers, Albert Spencer, Elmer Spencer and George B. Spencer.

He was the last standing member of the Enon Old Regular Baptist Church, a member of the Turkey Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, a retired coal miner, a member of the U.M.W.A. and a veteran of the U. S. Marines.

He is survived by two sons, James Larry (Kay) Spencer of Athens, Ga., and “Bobby” Robert Spencer of McCarr; one daughter, Anetha D. (Gary) Varney of McCarr; five grandchildren, Robby (Kathy) Spencer, Tonya Spencer, Jamie (Michelle) Varney, Margaret Ann Spencer and James Alanson Spencer; two great-grandchildren, Alayna Brooklynn Varney and Rylan Reed Varney; and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday February 28, at the Enon Old Regular Baptist Church with Hobert hamilton, Richard Staton and Bobby Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Alley Cemetery, Ransom, Ky. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, family and friends. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday night and Monday night at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky., with special services both nights at 7 p.m.
