Tuesday night’s area prep basketball schedule scrapped due to weather; some games rescheduled for tonight

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. -The Mingo and Pike county area boys and girls basketball schedules for Tuesday night fell victim to Mother Nature as the threat of slick roads and additional snow caused the cancellation of the local basketball contests.

Big boys match-ups between West Virginia Class A sectional rivals Matewan and Burch, Tug Valley and Williamson and Gilbert and Man were scrapped due to the icy conditions. Also a bigh Class AA match-up betweeen Chapmanville and Tolsia was also reportedly put on hold.

On the West Virginia girls side of things, scheduled contests between Matewan and Burch and Tug Valley and Sissonville were also held up.

The Williamson and Tug Valley boys match-up has been re-scheduled for February 7th. Also, the Daily News learned this morning that both the girls and boys Matewan versus Burch games have been re-set for tonight at Burch High School, weather permitting. With Mingo County Schools on a two-hour delay as of 12:00 last night and no word on whether that was changed to a closure or not at press time, fans are urged to contact Burch or Matewan High School later today to confirm that these contests are still on.

On they Kentucky side, the Belfry-Prestonsburg game was not held according to reports, No word on a reschedulingwas available at presstime.

The Daily News confirmed that the Gilbert versus Williamson gitls game was still on as of 6:00 a.m. today.
