WILLIAMSON –Neither snow nor rain nor freezing temperatures kept some potential Mingo County Grand Jurors from reporting to the Circuit Court Tuesday morning to begin its investigative work.

The panel of 20 jurors will be serving the January term of Circuit Court and from all indications it will have a very busy session. A total of 125 persons were summonsed for grand jury duty with 28 reporting.

Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney C. Michael Sparks said the jury is expected to be in session the remainder of this week and possibly the first part of next week. He did not indicate how many cases await investigation for possible indictments.

Sparks has three assistant prosecutors — Teresa D. Hall, Glen R. Rutledge and Jeffrey S. Simpkins — to handle the various cases in which indictments are returned.

When the grand jury completes its work, any indictments returned by the panel will be reported to Chief Judge Michael Thornsbury for arraignments of defendants, setting of bonds and trial dates, and ascertaining if each defendant has legal counsel.
