I, Mentola Jackson, “believe” it’s fair to answer some of the many questions I have received, pro and con, from many citizens residing in my ward, and for the many questions in general.
As I sat beneath my photo, I did promise to give 100 percent of myself to my many constituencies. However, to justify this further, I was/am not always able to exercise what I believe to be, even close to possible in many instances. Try hard or not, I chose the later. I believe in myself because I was taught early on to tell the truth and I have also tried to live by where I stand.
I believe in equality for all people. When and if I ran into problems during my stance as a councilwoman/member, I asked that the problems be examined, listing all sides and hopefully compromising. I believe if it’s broken, “fix it.” I do not believe in sweeping anything under the carpet, as the slang goes; be open to the truth even if it hurts.
I know I received different kinds of hurts, because of the way I identified right from wrong. I know that I am not a true politician. I’m just hard-working, and was very verbal about my feelings. I have been absent at one meeting in the almost four years that I have served.
I am a caring councilwoman. I brought forward each and every complaint I received. I don’t mind putting up a fight for what I believe in faithfully, but I had to lose many battles because of the same. Whoever decides to seek office do not ask my permission as it’s not mine to give. Should I decide to seek office again, I will do just that. Seek and go forth. I will go and be the same type of candidate, doing exactly what I am currently doing, looking for change where it is needed, seeking out ways to prove in order to become better citizens. As city leaders, we must make changes.
Finally, I wish anyone who may possibly replace me, good luck. Find your own true expectations.
Sincerely,
Mentola M. Jackson
Councilwoman Ward II
