RAND AP) — A Kanawha County man has been charged with attacking another man with a machete during an argument.

State Police said Tuesday that 42-year-old Algernon C. Tynch of Rand was arrested Monday night and charged with malicious wounding.

Tynch is accused of hitting 39-year-old Kenneth Simms of Rand in the right temple with a machete.

State Police said Simms suffered severe lacerations and a fractured skull and was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital. Simms' condition wasn't immediately available Tuesday.

State Police said the incident occurred at the residence of a woman whom both men dated, and the argument may have been over the woman.

Tynch was being held Tuesday at South Central Regional Jail.
