VARNEY — The West Virgina State Police are searching for a man suspected of stabbing three family members which ultimately left one dead in this normally quiet community situated between Matewan and Gilbert.
This marks the second murder investigation in Varney in as many weeks.
The WVSP are looking for Craig Edward Hite, 37. Craig Hite is also wanted in the state of Georgia for home invasion. He should be considered armed and dangerous, West Virgina State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous said.
According to Baylous, troopers responded to call at Varney, located on U.S. 52 some 20 miles south of Williamson, Wednesday morning and discovered a female victim dead from stab wounds at the scene and two other people seriously wounded.
Police said Craig Hite fled the scene in an unknown manner. As of presstime, the search for Craig Hite is still ongoing.
Sources say the murder victim was 54-year-old Charla Hite. Also wounded was Homer Hite, who was stabbed in the abdominal area, but not killed. Another surviving victim remains unidentified, but is believed to be Lorrie Hite.
Craig Hite is a white male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone who sees a person matching Craig Hite’s description or has any information about the case is asked to call 911 or contact the West Virginia State Police at (304) 235-6000 or (304) 664-3950.
The investigation is being conducted by Sgt. R.T. Frye and PFC L.T. Goldie.
Last week, 32-year-old Crystal Siegler was taken into custody on murder charges by U.S. Marshals and the FBI in Tennessee for the shooting death of her husband, David Clark, in Varney. She is currently awaiting extradition back to Mingo County.
