Flossie Hatfield Smith
Flossie Hatfield Smith, 78, if Gilbert, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, from her home after a long illness.
She was born Jan. 18, 1932, at Gilbert, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Liddie Lockhart Hatfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby, Susan and Ruth and a brother, Joseph.
Flossie graduated from Gilbert High School in 1949 and from Concord College with a B.S. degree in Education. She was a retired teacher formerly employed with the Mingo County Board of Education at Gilbert Grade School for over 37 years. Flossie was a poet and author who wrote two books of poetry and co-authored severl books about the Gilbert community. Using her writing ability, Flossie wrote many poems and stores upon request and enjoyed sharing her talent with others.
She was a member of the Justice United Methodist Church for over 25 years, where she served her church as a former Sunday school teacher. Flossie enjoyed gardening and feeding and watching birds.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Joe Smith of Gilbert, a daughter, Gretchen (Mark) Ryll of Greenville, S.C., a son, Gavin Smith of Gilbert6, a brother, Bobby Joe (Betsy) Stringer of Ashland, Ky., a granddaughter, Stacey (Jarrod) Hatfield of Gilbert, two grandsons, Tyler Ryll of Greenville, S.C. and Paul Ryll of Columbia, S.C., two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Emma Hatfield, both of Gilbert, a dear friend, Keith Carter of Gilbert and several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1p.m. Wednesday, Jan 12, 2001, at the First Missionary Baptist Church at Justice with the Rev. Diamond Carter and the Rev. James Nagy officiating. Burial will follow at the Larkin-Hatfield Cemetery at Horse Pen.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be Jarrod Hatfield, Tyler Ryll, Paul Ryll, Mark Thompson, Paul Edward Ball and Teddy Morgan.

Mary Jane Carter
Mary Jane Carter - age 77 of Varney, WV passed away Saturday; January 8, 2011 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Born February 26, 1933 on Pond Creek, KY; she was the daughter of the late Monroe Carter and Elsie Williams Carter Horn. Mary was a former business lady and waitress, but most importantly, she was a Jesus' Name minister and faithful member of the Jesus' Name Church. Survivors include 2 brothers Thomas Horn of Frankfort, KY and Charles Horn of Varney, WV; 3 sisters Billie Jean Roberts of Kitts Hill, OH, Betty Farley of Versailles, KY, and Gloria Evans of Varney, WV; and a host of friends and church family from near and far. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday; January 12, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Butch White, Greg Brown, and Jimmy Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery at Dan's Branch; Borderland, WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. James Elwood Perry
James Elwood Perry - age 73 of Williamson, WV passed away Saturday; January 8, 2011 in the Skilled Nursing Facility at South Williamson, KY. Born February 15, 1937 at Pocahontas, VA; he was the son of the late Daniel R. and Myrtle Jeffrey Perry. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Crystal Hammond. Jim was a retired railroad conductor and brakeman, a member of the Church of Christ, and a veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife Bertha Mahon Perry; daughters Lisa Shoda, Roma Lamb, Sandy Vyas, and Sharon Hardesty; son Ron Cisco; brother Robert Perry; sister Jean Boone; 7 grandchildren Jonathan and Matthew Shoda, Angela Sosebee, Ron Eric Cisco, Cindy Gibson, Krishna Vyas, and Brandon Hardesty; 6 great-grandchildren, and a special friend who was like a son Ira Evans. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday; January 11, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Dennis Wolford and Bro. David Parsley officiating. Rosemary Hatfield Belcher
Rosemary Hatfield Belcher, 56, of Taylorville, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at her home.
Born Jan 21, 1954, in Logan, she was the daughter of the late Brack and Mary Evans Hatfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Easter Hatfield.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, James Harrison Belcher, Jr., of Taylorville, sons Anthony (Cassandra) Belcher of Delbarton and James Belcher III of Matewan, daughter Mary (Billy) Collins of Delbarton, brothers John (Lea) Hatfield of Omar, Robin (Tammy) Hatfield of Taylorville, Doug (Wilma) Hatfield of Turkey Creek, Ky., and Ronnie (Bonnie) Hatfield of Ragland, sisters Jean (Zeb) Allen of Ragland and Arette (Doug) Marcum of Taylorville, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at the Chambers Funeral Home in Matewan, with the Rev. Jason Allen officiating. Burial will follow at the Taylor Cemetery at Taylorville.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at the funeral home chapel with a special service at 7 p.m.
