Having served the residents of Mingo and Pike counties for more than 100 years, the Williamson Daily News has faithfully served its readers, bringing local, state, national and global news to the area's doorsteps. Founded by Thomas B. Garner, a veteran newsman and community leader, in 1912, the Daily News has seen the Tug Valley's transition from the "billion-dollar coalfield" to the "trillion-dollar coalfield." Today it is published by Civitas Media LLC, with headquarters in Davidson, N.C., and has access to the resources of a company that owns more than 100 daily and weekly newspapers throughout the Eastern United States and the Midwest. Throughout its history, the Daily News has kept up with rapid changes in technology to better serve its readers and advertisers, but its core values have not changed. The Daily News has always sought to protect the rights of the people of the Tug Valley and to give its readers a balanced and fair account of the events that shape this area, the nation and the world.
