WEST WILLIAMSON — The 18th annual Tug Valley Area Rough N’ Rowdy Brawl invades the Williamson Fieldhouse tonight and Saturday night, with the first punch scheduled to be thrown at 7:30 p.m.
The lightweight division has 2011 champ Channing Preece of Kermit and former runner-up ‘G3’ Gerald Epling III of Hardy returning for action this year. Local middleweight superstar and former 2011 heavyweight runner-up Micah Mahon of Matewan says he is ready to win his first Rough N Rowdy title this weekend and invites everyone to come out and cheer him on.
The 2012 heavyweight champ “Pretty Boy” Jeremy Chapman of Prichard is coming to defend his title, and will have his hands full, as the division is loaded with new talent and rising stars.
The Rough N’ Rowdy Brawl is a 2-day single elimination boxing contest featuring local men and women with limited ring experience. Each fight consists of 3 one-minute rounds and a minute rest period between rounds. Bar-room brawlers and street fighters are welcome. The event will be sanctioned and supervised by the West Virginia Athletic Commission.
Thousands in cash plus title jackets and trophies will be up for grabs. The champion in each division wins a jacket, trophy and $1,000. The runner-ups receive a trophy and $250. The men’s divisions are lightweight (140-159 lbs.), middleweight (160-184 lbs.), and heavyweight (185-400 lbs.).
For females willing to enter the ring, there will be a women’s lightweight division (140-159 lbs.), and a women’s heavyweight division (185-400 lbs.).
The women’s prize money is subject to change, it will be based on the number of participants. The ring girl bikini contest champion will also take home $1,000 cash, along with a jacket and trophy. The Runner-up will win $500 and a trophy.
The winners are chosen by crowd applause so be sure to cheer as loud as you can for your favorite ring girl. All Rough N Rowdy fighters are asked to meet at the Williamson Fieldhouse at 5 p.m. this evening for registration, weigh-ins and pre-fight physicals.
Tickets are on sale now at Williamson Gun and Archery and Delbarton Exxon One-Stop. They are also available online at www.boxingcontest.com and can be purchased at the gate each night starting at 5 p.m. Adult general admission is $15 adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Ringside reserved tickets will be $20. If you buy your tickets in advance, you will save $2 on all general admission tickets purchased before tonight’s event begins.
