CHARLESTON - The Tug Valley High School 2012 State Championship Boys Basketball team and cheerleaders visited the West Virginia State Capitol on Thursday to receive a citation congratulating the teams from the House of Delegates.
Delegates Justin Marcum (D-Mingo, Logan) and Harry Keith White (D-Mingo) were on hand to escort the students into the chamber.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our Tug Valley Panthers. The hard work and determination that these teams put forth is truly commendable,” Delegate Marcum said. “They definitely are a source of pride for Mingo County.”
The Tug Valley Boys’ Basketball team defeated Bluefield in the Championship game back in March of last year to win the state title. The school’s cheerleading team won their 2012 state title in December, posting a score of 322.1, fifteen points better than runner-up Tyler Consolidated.
“The future of Mingo County lies within our youth,” remarked Marcum. “It is wonderful to see a group of young men and women who know that the key to success is hard work, dedication and commitment. Their accomplishments are a tribute of this fact and they are setting a fine example for others to follow in their footsteps.”
