WILLIAMSON - A Pike County. Ky. resident who was profiled in the second edition of the Williamson Daily News’ “Mingo’s Most Wanted” turned himself in to authorities Tuesday afternoon and was arraigned in magistrate court on charges of forgery, uttering and fraudulent schemes cumulative.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Williamson Police Chief C.D. Rockel, on April 26 of this year, Chad Douglas Justice, 24, of McCarr, Ky., did forge and utter a check from the account of Derrick Justice (drawn upon Community Trust Bank) for the amount of $2,500, with Justice receiving $1,000 and depositing the remaining $1,500 into the his legitimate account at the Williamson Branch of the Bank of Mingo.
After making the fraudulent deposit, Justice is said to have returned to the Bank of Mingo in Williamson, withdrawing an additional $1,000 on April 27, $1,200 on April 28 and $300 on April 30, totaling $2,500 before the Community First Bank stopped payment, thus fraudulently stealing money from the Bank of Mingo.
The bank activity was witnessed by officials and was also recorded on surveillance equipment inside and outside the financial institution.
Justice had a criminal past that includes similar charges, and could be charged as a repeat offender. He was arraigned before Mingo County Special Magistrate Joey Kohari and was released from custody after posting a $7,500 bond.
“This makes two arrests that are direct results of the ‘Mingo’s Most Wanted’ articles,” said Rockel. “When the public gets involved and either call in tips about a fugitive’s whereabouts or put pressure on them to turn themselves in, we win either way.
“We’re going to continue to profile fugitives in these articles along with cases that we need assistance in solving. We can’t be everywhere and see everything, and that’s why we’re turning to the public for help,” said Rockel.
“We greatly appreciate the public’s participation with these cases, and to me, this shows that they are fed up with criminals remaining on the run who have not faced punishment for crimes they have committed.”
The next “Mingo’s Most Wanted” will be featured in Saturday’s edition of the Daily News.
