WILLIAMSON - A Mingo County teacher pleaded not guilty to charges of abuse.

James Hiram Keatley II, a football and basketball coach at Matewan Middle School, pleaded not guilty in Mingo County Circuit Court Tuesday to two counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of battery against one student, and one count of sexual abuse against another student, both under 16-years-old.

Judge Michael Thornsbury set Keatley’s bond at $48,000. He was placed on home confinement and ordered to have no contact with persons under 18-years of his age, other than family. Thornsbury said he will undergo random drug screenings.

Keatley’s trial was scheduled for Oct. 29.

I grew up knowing this family. I had Jim and Hester both as teachers they raised a beautiful honest family, they were taught to respect themselves and others. My children played sports and was around Rebecca, and Jimmy. They are so honest. I think that Jimmy being accused of this crime is a injustice to the entire Keathly family and the areas they live in. When his trial comes up, and he is cleared of all these charges will the paper place an ad to Jimmy for the injustice that he has incurred. I think that the court system needs to take a better look at who is making these accusations and to what the truth is.
