WILLIAMSON - Three defendants plead guilty this Monday before Mingo County Circuit Court Judge Michael Thornsbury, to charges on which they had been indicted during the convening of the April Grand Jury, with one waiving their right to a presentence investigation.
In the case of the State of WV vs. John Andrew Slone, Indictment A12-F54, the defendant pleaded guilty to delivery of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Alprazolam). He waived his right to a presentence investigation and was immediately sentenced to confinement in a state correctional facility for an indefinite term of 1-5 years, and fined $1,000.
Slone was captured and charged as a fugitive from justice in Pike County, Ky., after he was featured in an edition on the Williamson Daily News “Mingo’s Most Wanted” by Williamson Police Chief C.D. Rockel and was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system. Tips poured in as to the fugitive’s whereabouts, and he was taken into custody by the Pike County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) and was extradited back to WV after he faced misdemeanor charges against him in Ky.
Slone was represented in court by Attorney Stacy Kohari Asst. Prosecuting Attorney Glen Rutledge appeared for the state and Chief Rockel was the investigating officer who testified in the case.
Regarding Indictment A12-F37, the State of WV vs. Brandon Goins, the defendant pleaded guilty to conspiracy (enter of building other than a dwelling), charges that stemmed from a burglary and theft from the local business City Tire, located on 2nd Ave. in Williamson, where he was an employed at the time the alleged crime took place.
Goins faces a prison sentence of not less than 1 nor more than 5 years. The defendant was represented by Attorney C. Christopher Younger, with Asst. Prosecutor Teresa D. Maynard appearing for the state. Mingo County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) Sgt J. Smith was the lead investigator.
In indictment A12-F40, State of WV vs. Roger Scott Johnson, the defendant pled guilty to one count attempt (burglary). Johnson is exposed to a prison sentence of 1-3 years. Legal counsel for the defendant was Attorney Donald C. Wandling. Representing the state was Asst. Prosecutor Maynard. West Virginia State Police Trooper J.D. Matheny was the investigating officer.
Sentencing for Goins and Johnson is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 10 at 9:15 a.m., in the circuit court room.
