“Red Kettle” campaign kicks off for holiday season

WILLIAMSON - Each year as local residents are shopping for the holiday season, they are reminded of those less fortunate than themselves each time they hear the familiar ringing of the Salvation Army Bell.

The 2012 official fundraising season is currently underway and officials with the charitable organization are hopeful that those who can afford to will remember the true spirit of the holiday season when they spot the iconic “Red Kettle”.

The kettles, located at participating area businesses, are a great way for the public to help those in need in our communities. The money raised will support social services, feeding programs, shelter programs, and so many more life changing services in the coming year throughout Logan, Mingo and Boone counties.

Interested parties are also invited to serve as volunteer bell-ringers. Your efforts will bring joy, hope, and a helping hand to so many this holiday season, as well as in the coming year. Ring on your own or bring your friends and family along. In a short time, you can make a big difference.

To learn more about your Salvation Army, volunteer to be a bell-ringer or to see how you may become involved in other fundraising events, please visit their website at http://www.facebook.com/TheSalvationArmyLoganWestVirginia, or call their office at 304-784-1983.

White would be right choice for Speaker
When House Finance Chairman Harry Keith White, D-Mingo, announced his candidacy this week for the House of Delegates speaker position, we weren’t surprised. In our mind, he’s the right man for the job. Supporting White goes far beyond casting a vote for one of our own. We realize how important...
