An employee at the Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital radiology department was recently honored as an annual ARH CARES winner in Lexington, Ky.
Williamson ARH Hospital’s winner was Nancy Jane Varney, who has worked in the Williamson ARH radiology department for the past 27 years.
Varney also has the unique distinction of being born at the original Miners Memorial Hospital, now called Williamson ARH Hospital.
To be named a CARES award recipient - which stands for Communication, Attentive, Respectful, Environment and Special - the honorees were nominated by their peers or patients in appreciation for their dedication and commitment to exceeding the standards in their local community, a press release from ARH stated.
Appalachian Regional Healthcare honored employees from across its Kentucky and West Virginia system Feb. 9. Employee representatives from each ARH community who had been named as their respective hospital’s Annual CARES Winner were recognized during the system’s Board of Trustees meeting.
“These employees have been recognized as going above and beyond to care for our patients, the communities we serve and their co-workers,” ARH President and CEO Jerry W. Haynes said.
Each community has a monthly or quarterly winner. The honorees were not only chosen as the monthly or quarterly winner, but were selected by that community’s CARES committee as the person most deserving of the honor of annual CARES Awards Winner.
“We are very proud of each of our CARES winners and sincerely appreciate their dedication to a health system that means so much to our communities,” Haynes said.
Appalachian Regional Healthcare, a not-for-profit health system serving 350,000 residents across Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia, is the largest provider of care and single largest employer in southeastern Kentucky and the third largest private employer in southern West Virginia. The ARH system employs nearly 5,000 people and has a network of more than 600 active and courtesy medical staff members representing various specialties.
