LOGAN – Audition information has been announced by The Aracoma Story, Inc. for the upcoming 2013 Summer Season’s productions of THE WIZARD OF OZ and THE ARACOMA STORY. The Aracoma Story, Inc. is known throughout the region for their quality stage productions performed at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheatre in Chief Logan State Park. The non-profit theatre company has successfully produced shows in Logan, West Virginia for 39 consecutive summer seasons.

Auditions for both productions will be held on Friday, May 10th from 3pm – 7pm and Saturday, May 11th from 12pm - 4pm in Logan, West Virginia at the Logan High School Theater. Rehearsals for THE WIZARD OF OZ will begin on May 15th and the show runs from June 18th through July 7th. Rehearsals for THE ARACOMA STORY will begin on June 24th and the show dates run from July 23rd through August 4th.

THE WIZARD OF OZ will offer both singing and non-singing roles for men, women and children. To audition, you should be prepared to sing a verse and chorus from a song of your choice. Your song should be memorized and any sheet music should be in your key. The Music Director will accompany on piano for those bringing sheet music. CD accompaniment is fine as long as no other vocal tracks are present. All roles are open for auditions including Dorothy Gail, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Toto (dog), Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda The Good Witch, Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, Professor Marvel, Munchkinland Mayor, Munchkinland Coroner, Winkie General, Winkies Soldiers, Nikko, Flying Monkeys, Munchkins, Ozians, and numerous other roles for men, women and children.

Directing THE WIZARD OF OZ will be Shelley Cooper who grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Cooper currently resides in New York City where she works as a Director and Musical Theatre Voice Teacher. She holds a B.A. in Theatre from Hanover College and an M.F.A. in Musical Theatre from the University of Central Florida. She has worked at a variety of places including Orlando Repertory Theatre, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Shawnee Summer Theatre, International Performing Arts Institute in Bavaria, Germany and The Venetian Macao in China. She has also worked as a Musical Theatre Professor at the University of Central Florida. Cooper has a passion for Musical Theatre and brings a wide range of skills in the field including Directing, Choreography, Vocal Directing, Casting, Acting and Singing.

Serving as Music Director for THE WIZARD OF OZ will be Brandon Fullenkamp who graduates in May with a Masters in Conducting from Ohio University in Athen, Ohio. Fullenkamp also holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Bluffton University, in Bluffton, Ohio. While there, he worked on several productions including Singing In The Rain, Little Women, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Fullenkamp most recently served as the Music Director and Conductor for Ohio University’s production of’Sweeney Todd.

All roles for the historical drama, THE ARACOMA STORY, are non-singing roles. To audition, you should be prepared to read a selected scene from the script that will be provided at the audition. All roles are open including Princess Aracoma, Boling Baker, Chief Logan, Chief Cornstalk, Dream Teller, Oceana, Settlers, and numerous other roles. Several men and women are needed for this production that has more than 40 people in the cast.

Returning as Director of THE ARACOMA STORY will be Bruce Baisden who is a Logan County resident. Prior to directing the show last season, he had performed as an actor in it for many years with roles that included the male lead of Bolling Baker and Chief Logan. He has also performed in several other TAS, Inc. productions over the years. Baisden plans to bring his love for this beautiful story to the stage with fresh ideas to make this season a unique experience for his actors and audiences.

Show dates for THE WIZARD OF OZ will be June 18th – July 7th, then THE ARACOMA STORY runs from July 23rd – August 4th. All performances are at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheatre in Chief Logan State Park with all shows beginning at 8:30pm.
