WILLIAMSON — The phrase “out with the old and in with new” will symbolize more than the end of the 2012 year and the beginning of 2013 for those who attend a New Year’s Eve Celebration/Swearing-In Ceremony scheduled to take place Monday evening, Dec. 31, it will mean the changing of the guard for one county office while other incumbents once again take the oath of office.
“Team Mingo” is sponsoring the New Year’s Eve event that is slated to begin at 10 p.m. on Court Street in downtown Williamson, next to the courthouse. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the fun-filled event. Musical entertainment will be provided by local D.J. Darry Paige, with the likelihood of additional singers performing as well. Patio-style heaters will line the street to allow for the crowd to warm up if they feel the need, and the courthouse will be open for that purpose as well. Free coffee and hot chocolate will be offered to all who attend, as well as party favors. Bleachers will be set up on Court Street for seating, and the New York Time-Square New Year’s Eve Party and Countdown will be televised live on the wall of the courthouse.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., Mingo County Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury will start the swearing-in ceremony and will administer the oath of office to the new Sheriff, Eugene Crum; Prosecuting Attorney C. Michael Sparks; 20th District House of Delegates Justin Marcum; County Commissioner David Baisden; Chief Magistrate Dallas Toler and Assessor Ramona Mahon.
A state-of-the-art fireworks display will commence at midnight, as all those in attendance welcome in the New Year.
“We want to invite everyone to come out and spend the last few hours of 2012 with us, as well as the first few moments of 2013,” stated Crum. “We wanted to plan an event for all Mingo Countians who want to be a part of a wonderful event that is free for everyone.”
“Come out and help us celebrate as we take the oath of office and begin or continue to do our duty serving the citizens of this great county.”
