The Tug Valley Relay for Life Committee met recently to continue its plans for the upcoming event scheduled for June 15-16, at the Jim Van Zant Baseball Field in West Williamson.
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ASCAN) program was discussed, and committee members were encouraged to join. ASCAN is a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society program which supports evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.
ASCAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national proprietary. The program also gives ordinary people extraordinary power to fight cancer with the training and tools they need to make their voices heard. Sherry Hatfield is Chairwoman of the ASCAN committee.
It was also announced that the annual caregiver and survivor dinner will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital cafeteria at 6 p.m. For more information about the dinner, volunteering or forming a team, call Co-Chair Dawn King at 606-353-8094 or Co-Chair Chris Dotson at 304-235-0177.
