GOODY, Ky. - A two-vehicle accident that occurred Thursday evening in front of the B.P. Station near the entrance to the Belfry High School caused moderate to severe damage to both Chevrolet trucks involved in the wreck, but both drivers and their passengers managed to escape serious injury.

According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Hoyt Smith, after speaking with the drivers and eye witnesses and walking through an accident recreation, it appears that the Chevrolet Silverado truck driven by Joshua Simpkins was attempting to leave the parking area of the B.P. Station near the car wash, when he allegedly pulled into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado operated by a 17-year-old juvenile traveling in the southbound lane of U.S. 119 that was in the process of turning into the parking area.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage in the accident.

Audrey Simpkins, the 8-month pregnant wife of Joshua, who was a passenger in his truck, was evaluated at the scene by EMT’s with the Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service but declined transport to the hospital. Both driver and passenger in the other vehicle, both 17-years-old, had parents who quickly arrived on the scene who also signed refusal forms for medical care.

Smith was assisted at the scene by KSP Trooper J. McEllan and members of the Belfry Volunteer Fire Department who provided traffic control and also cleaned up debris from the damaged trucks which were in the roadway.
