LENORE - An open house to welcome veterans to the new Veteran’s Affairs outreach clinic in Lenore was held Wednesday.
The Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, that was located on Fourth Avenue in Williamson, was closed Aug. 4. Since that time, patients have been seen at the Robert C. Byrd Center for Rural Health in Chapmanville.
The new location is a 2,220 square foot facility is a new building, located in the Lenore Business Center.
“We have a nice facility,” Dr. Manolo Tampoya said. “I was impressed when I first saw the clinic.”
John Klim is the chief engineer with VA hospitals.
“When I first came to look at this space, it was two separate offices,” Klim said. “We looked at about seven sites, and this one was centrally located, and the owners worked with staff engineers to remodel it perfectly to fit our needs.”
Debbie Brammer, spokesperson for the VA, said the clinic is within a 45 minute drive of 2,600 veterans.
The Lenore VA Outreach Clinic is open four days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m,. to 4:30 p.m.
Services that are provided at the clinic include the usual outpatient visits as well as health maintenance services, such as flu shots and lab work. Leisha Roberts said the clinic has resources to treat mental health issues, diabetes and weight loss problems, and plans are in place to include other medical specialties in the future.
Another feature of the new clinic is Telehealth, a internet based system that will allow patients to interact face-to-face with specialists in the Huntington VA Hospital.
The new clinic also provides internet access to enable veterans to access their medical records online through My HealtheVet, a web-based personal health records.
