WILLIAMSON — The Mingo County Redevelopment Authority welcomed its newest member, a man with experience in reinvigorating a community.

Dr. Donovan “Dino” Beckett was sworn in at MCRA’s last meeting.

Beckett has served on the Williamson Redevelopment Authority since 2005, and as its Director since 2006.

Under his direction, Williamson Redevelopment has brought several projects to the city. Streetscape improvements brought ornamental lighting and landscaping to Harvey Street, and the Williamson Health and Wellness Center is moving forward, obtaining funding. The WRA is also the sponsoring agency for the Mingo County Diabetes Coalition.

The WRA has also brought a farmer’s market to the city during the summer months and a community garden on East Third Avenue.

Dr. Beckett is a graduate of Williamson High School, West Virginia University and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He has a Family Medicine practice in Williamson, Williamson Primary Care. He lives in Williamson with his wife Stacy and children Griffin and Reagan.

Dr. Beckett said he hopes to continue the progress the MCRA has brought to the County.

“I want to use the vision Mike Whitt as a road map,” Dr. Beckett said. “I will try to use what expertise I bring to the table to compliment the current board members.

“The Redevelopment Authority is privileged to welcome Dr. Beckett to our board of directors,” MCRA Deputy Executive Director Leasha Johnson said. “His commitment to economic vitality is evidenced by the countless ventures he’s undertaken as one of Williamson’s most successful entrepreneurs, and we’re confident that his foresight for a sustainable Mingo County is a perfect fit with our mission of affording to our citizens a diversified economy, job growth and an enhanced quality of life.”
