WILLIAMSON - A man’s three year evasion of police came to an end yesterday after a background check revealed interesting information.
Williamson Police Chief C.D. Rockel told the Daily News that Jason Tackett, 40, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, was at the Department of Health and Human Resources in Williamson with his girlfriend and 2-week-old child as part of a child custody case.
After running a background check on Tackett, it was revealed that he had been indicted in the Dayton area three years ago for receiving stolen property, and fled. He had been on the lam since.
Lt. G.P. Dotson arrested Tackett as a fugitive from justice after the DHHR called the WPD.
Rockel said that Tackett’s apparent sojourn from Dayton took him all the way to Arizona and then somehow he made it to the city, which baffled the chief.
“I have no idea how he wound up in Williamson,” Rockel said.
The chief said that Tackett’s girlfriend, whose name was not released, was given a room in a local motel and the DHHR took custody of the child.
Tackett was arraigned by Magistrate Pam Newsome and is currently lodged at the Southwestern Regional Jail, in Holden, without bond. Rockel said that bond was typically not given to fugitives from justice until after an extradition hearing is held because of a potential flight risk involved.
No date has been set for an extradition hearing as of presstime.
