PCFC: County needs to pull together

Julia Roberts Goad

Staff Writer

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - The people of Pike County need to pull together for the betterment of the community, said the Pike County Fiscal Court.

“We need to respect each other,” Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford said. “The smallest things we do have an impact on people’s lives.”

Rutherford said the community faces hard times, including an attack on coal from the Environmental Protection. He said the Court needs to be a champion of dignity and respect.

The proclamation says members of the communities “all must have a common goal, and that is to make Pike County a better place to live and raise our families, to work together to enhance our quality of life, to build up, not tear down.”

“We do hereby ask and encourage each Pike Countian to be a champion of dignity and respect and to join “Team Pike County”, take the dignity and respect pledge and treat everyone how you would want to be treated.” the proclamation said.

In other business, Pike County Floodplain Coordinator Jimmy Kiser said a location had been found to put a storage unit near the floodwall in South Williamson.

The Army Corps of Engineers must approve the plans for the unit, as it will hold sandbags to be used in the case of a flood.

The building will be adjacent to the park at South Williamson, Kiser said, in the parking lot. Some of the grassy play area will be re-purposed for parking.
