West Virginia University received its first football commitment for 2015 this past weekend after offering a scholarship to Stone Wolfley.

The 6-foot-4, 238-pound tight end/defensive end will be entering his junior season at Morgantown High. Wolfley described himself as “a West Virginia boy” who grew up in a house of WVU fans. His father, Dale, is the coordinator of player relations for WVU. He was a four-year offensive line letterman at WVU from 1987-90. His uncle Ron played running back for the Mountaineers from 1981-84. Ron went on to play in the NFL where he was a great special teams’ performer.

The homegrown prospect with deep family ties to the Mountaineer program said he always wanted to play at WVU.

The offer came from head coach Dana Holgorsen after Wolfley’s high school team advanced in WVU’s 7-on-7 camp Friday and Saturday.

… Former WVU wide receiver Tavon Austin reportedly signed his contract with the Rams. The first round pick will get $12.6 million over four seasons, plus a $7.65 million signing bonus. This is great for Austin, who grew up in a rough neighborhood in Baltimore. He is seeing all of his hard work pay off.

Stedman Bailey, who was also drafted by the Rams, got a contract worth $2.73 million over four seasons plus a $527,400 signing bonus.

This could be a good recruiting tool for WVU. This is not to mention quarterback Geno Smith, who will likely receive a nice contract with the New York Jets. Smith, a high 2^nd round pick, is competing for the starting job along with Mark Sanchez. If Smith performs well in New York, he could eventually get a huge contract from the Jets organization.

… The Cincinnati Bengals will star in the training camp documentary show “Hard Knocks” for the second time in five NFL seasons.

HBO announced Monday that the Bengals would be featured in the popular series, which premieres Aug. 6. Cincinnati last appeared on it in 2009. The Miami Dolphins were last season’s team.

The Bengals no longer have receiver Chad Johnson - then “Ochocinco” - as a TV attraction. Cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was recently charged with assault, the latest in his string of legal troubles.

Cincinnati went on to win the AFC North in 2009. The eighth season of “Hard Knocks” will air five episodes on Tuesday nights through Sept. 3.
